Presidents Day Weekend

Finally through most of the major school assignments (for now) and the weekend was a great time to rest, relax and enjoy the company of others. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure.

Early (relatively) sunday morning, we decided dim sum at Empress Pavillion would be a good idea. So did many other people. After waiting an hour for our table, we finally got to eat some tasty dim sum. On the little stamp card that you always get, they misspelled "suckling pig." I'm glad their cooking wasn't as bad as their writing.

Even though we had a not so good tripe experience at the last dim sum place, Darren ordered the tripe here. Thankfully, it was much better than the last time. If you don't know what tripe is, I'm sure it's not too difficult to google.

On the corner next to the plaza, we discovered a shop that sells cool statues. Here's Kevin with the lucky cat...

...and here's Carie with Buddha.

Later that evening, we arranged to have some potlucking at our apartment. You can see in this picture, bbq beef (from Claudia), Ma Po Tofu (from Traci H), the Nakamura Chili (from Kurt) and baby back ribs (that I bought and Darren is taking credit for). Not pictured were the late-arriving spam musubis and the lovely crepes that were cooked for dessert...

Darren, Pauline & Claudia were the first in line. Notice how happy they are to be partaking in the food!

We even got a haupia birthday cake for Kurt from King's Hawaiian (thank YOU!)!

If you can't read, it says "Happy Birthday Mr. Brightsmile." This is because Kurt misheard the name of the song "Mr. Brightside" by the Killers.

Happy 21st sucka! You know the celebration was styling because we had good company, tasty food AND desperate housewives!

Thanks to everyone for showing up for the celebrations. I hope you all had as much fun as I did and we definitely have to do this again sometime!
Don't forget that this friday is Brooke Fraser, Live at the Hotel Cafe @ 8 pm!!! Let me know if you want to go!!!
I hope everyone enjoyed the pictures. Take care and I'll see you all around. Happy Presidents Day!
