Farewell LA...

...for now. I say this because even though I've graduated, there's a very real possibility of me being back for grad school. Anyways, sorry for the absence on here but I blame it on a mixture of being both too busy (at times) and too lazy (the rest of the time). So, here's a little mini-post to try and make up for things for the time being.

First thing's first. Here are some pics from the "big day" that was Commencement. I'm glad to have had a chance to see everyone. In the interest of time (and because I don't have pictures of everyone on hand), here are just a few pics from the day.

My awesome family. It made me extremely happy that not only were my parents able to fly up, but also my Aunty & Grandparents (from out of country). Too bad my brother was too busy, running in the Track & Field State Championships, to make it.

Me & Brad. How the heck did Brandon get in the background of yet another picture?

Me, Cadet Ng & Cadet Nakamura.

Josh & I. Thanks for coming all the way from Pepperdine!

Carie & I by the bookstore. Luckily we arranged to meet up there because shortly after seeing her, I saw...

Ryan, Ryan, Claudia, Me, Cat, Jeanine & Darren. We all sorta just ran into each other purely by coincidence. How fortunate!
grad - darren melissa adrian
Darren, Melissa & I. The original Freshman gang. While Darren & I have known each other forever, we met Melissa at Freshman Orientation in Hawaii and decided to schedule exactly the same classes so we would have friends in class! What a brilliant idea!

And lastly, but not least, I had a very enjoyable last few days in the City of Angels thanks to some very cool friends. Here's my shout out to those individuals:

Grant. There is no one else on Earth quite like you. Thanks for sharing your interest in motorcycles and making my weekends just that much more interesting. Stay crazy dude.

This Golden Gopher here is not a friend of mine. He does, however, stand in for Kim & Brad who I had a chance to hang out with one last time on my final night in LA. We had an awesome dinner at Morel's (during which we didn't get a picture together out of respect for Kim's reluctance to snap photos in restaurants) and we made it over to the Golden Gopher for Paul's 21st. Thanks to the two of you for all the memories we've had in Paris and SC as well as all the good times to come.

So with that, and my apologies for sounding rather cliche, graduation closes a very important chapter of my life and begins yet another. It'll be exciting to see where I go from here! Well, I hope you all enjoyed this little photo blog. Take care and stay tuned for my next post...whenever that comes. Au Revoir!

Graduation '06

Howdy folks! I've officially graduated from the University of Southern California as a member of the Class of '06. Here's the proof:

Me & Dr. Khoo Me & Diploma Me

(L->R): 1) Me & Dr. Khoo, the Chair of the BME Department. 2) Me and my Bachelors of Science Degree in Biomedical/Mechanical Engineering (it wasn't the real degree since that'll be sent in the mail sometime soon). 3) The happy grad.
It was great to see everyone who came and I will be posting more pics when I get them. Have a great May everyone!

Exam Period Update: Love Your Earth

earth

It's currently 5 minutes till 3 (in the AM) and I'd like to momentarily interrupt my exam cram session to deliver an important public service announcement. Our planet is a lovely place and we should all strive to help keep it that way instead of draining the life out of it. Through a friend (thanks Lily) I found this site that, using a short survey, estimates your personal energy needs based on your food intake, transportation and housing situation. Please do check it out and see for yourself if you're living life in a more eco-friendly manner than your fellow Americans (or wherever you might be now). The results might intrigue you. In any case, I concede that hydroelectricity and Priuses alone will not make this world a better place but it really doesn't hurt to do as much or as little as you can. It all adds up, for better or for worse. Anyways, back to the books. Keep it green folks and I'll see you all later.

Exam Period Update: Pasadena Again

Howdy folks. The first week of finals is in the books and just 3 days plus 4 exams are left. So, just to take a bit of a break this weekend, we decided to take a trip on the Metro back to Pasadena (y'know, cuz one trip on public transportation in the past 2 weeks wasn't good enough). Also, since I haven't had nearly enough pictures of food, here are a ton for you all to enjoy.

meat & cheese
Dinner was at a restaurant serving Spanish tapas called Bar Celona (clever eh?). Here's Kurt's plate of Spanish cured meats and cheeses! They had some damn good chorizo there.
shrimp & crap
Tiger prawns on top, crabcakes on the bottom. Darren & Priscilla ordered this to go with their main dish...
short ribs
Short ribs. It looked pretty good but I'll admit I didn't have a taste.
lamb shank
Finally, we get to my dish. I ordered a lamb shank that came with some roasted veges and potato puree. The menu outside, which was outdated, said it was New Zealand lamb but the waiter said it no longer was. It was good but the sauce wasn't as complementary as I would have hoped and that kept it from being better than good.
the gang
Here's the gang with all of our food. Brandon, Kurt, Me, Priscilla and Darren. It was unfortunately a bit too dark for my poor old phone so I apologize for the quality.
brandon
And here's what was missing from the last entry: pics from the Metro. Here's Brandon resting in his seat.
d&p
Priscilla was probably the most comfortable cuz she had Darren between her and the uncomfortable Metro seats.
kurt & me
And finally, here are Kurt & I lounging around. I dunno what it was (probably the food actually) but we were all pretty tired by the time we got into the train. It should be said that we went back to 21 Choices for some more yoghurt action and that most definitely did not help to make us any more awake.

Luckily for Brandon & I, we didn't have a take home final to work on after dinner but the same cannot be said about Darren, Priscilla & Kurt. They got it done but it looked pretty rough. Anyways, just a few more finals to get through before the absolute end. Wish us luck and I'll keep you all posted on the current events. Commencement here we come!

Exam Period Update: Hungry...

Good evening folks. It's quite late here in LA and it's rather quiet but I thought I'd put up a quick post before I hop into bed. Exams are approaching and there are several things that I need to get done this week and next week, before graduation rolls around. Here's a bit of a breakdown (in chronological order):

-Wed: BME 405 Final Project Report
-Thurs: BME 402 Project 2 and BME 416 Final Exam (So much I need to know because it is cumulative)
-Mon: BME 414 Final Exam (Open book) & BME 405 Final Exam (Labview, i.e. easy...hopefully)
-Tues: BME 402 Final Exam (Also, a lots to know despite it not being cumulative)
-Wed: BISC 230 Final Exam (Pass/No Pass...not too worried here)

So, assuming I survive all that, graduation will roll up on Friday May 12. Until then, I guess I better start cramming all that knowledge into my brain and frantically finish up all those leftover projects. Oh, and just to relate things to the post title, I'd really, REALLY like to eat some feijoas.

headgear
P.S. One last thing, here's a picture of my friend Daniel's sister Julie wearing rugby headgear. I got the headgear for Daniel because: 1) Rugby is cool. 2) He plays Ultimate like a madman and probably needs something to cover his head. For one reason or another, Julie decided to try it on and Daniel got a picture. Let's get one thing straight, I would not like to find myself at the bottom of a ruck against Julie cuz I have a feeling my head would get stomped on...
